A Journey of Hope and Resilience in the Fight Against Multiple Sclerosis

Inspired by his wife’s MS diagnosis, Sam Perrett embarks on an ambitious 5-year journey to raise £500,000 for the MS Society through adventurous river expeditions.

In 2023, Sam Perrett’s life took a dramatic turn when his wife, Nikki, was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis.

This diagnosis became a turning point for Sam, a committed father of two from Worcester, inspiring him to prioritize a healthier lifestyle and drive meaningful change in the battle against MS.

Fueled by this motivation, he set off on an ambitious five-year mission to raise £500,000 for the MS Society, a vision he’s named “Source2Sea.”

Adventurous Journeys Ahead

Sam’s plan is filled with adventure.

He will embark on a series of journeys along five rivers, combining hiking, kayaking, and cycling.

He’s set to kick off this ambitious initiative with an expedition along the River Severn, which will pave the way for the following rivers: the Rhone, which meanders through France and Switzerland; the Tagus, stretching across Spain and Portugal; and the majestic Rhine, flowing from the Swiss Alps to the Netherlands.

The fifth river remains a mystery, but Sam is eager to reveal it, promising a spectacular finale.

Commitment to Fitness

While he sees the River Severn as merely a warm-up for the more demanding challenges ahead, Sam understands the rigorous nature of these adventures.

Recognizing the physical toll they could take, he brought a personal trainer on board and successfully lost around 17kg.

In a show of commitment, he transformed his home into a shared gym space for his family, including Nikki, who is in her 30s, and their two daughters, aged nine and two, making fitness a family-centered endeavor.

Raising Funds and Hope

As he prepares for the River Severn expedition—a grueling 385-kilometer journey slated for one week—Sam has outlined an intense schedule.

His first day will include a challenging 46-kilometer hike, followed by five days of kayaking in which he’ll need to average 48 kilometers daily.

He’ll wrap up this strenuous adventure with an 80-kilometer bike ride from Gloucester to Portishead.

The diagnosis cast a heavy shadow over Sam and his family, leading to numerous uncertainties about their future, especially given Nikki’s young age.

Yet, fueled by resilience, Sam is determined to raise vital funds.

He passionately pursues his ambitious goal of £500,000 over the next five years.

While he understands the scale of this challenge, he views it as a source of hope, not just for his own family but for countless others living with multiple sclerosis.
